Best Practices & Recommendations
The migration to S/4HANA with the CRM Add-on proceeds most smoothly when it is well prepared and
structured. The following recommendations are based on experience from similar projects.
1. Document systematically
- Export and compare existing SD-CAS configuration
- Create a structured overview of all custom fields, partner roles, statuses, etc.
- Maintain naming conventions for new objects (e.g., Z001, Z99, Z0000001)
2. Reuse existing structures
- Adopt existing status flows, classifications, and catalogs
- Keep code group IDs and texts identical to reduce training effort
3. Design test data realistically
- Use real customers, contacts, and transaction types during the testing phase
- At least one complete process including feedback and classification per transaction
4. Avoid typical sources of error
- No class assignment present → Object is not displayed
- Partner role missing or incomplete → Activity cannot be saved
- Texts missing → Errors during PDF export or display issues in CIS mobile
- Status transition not defined → Feedback not possible
5. Plan for flexibility
- Expansion potential in classifications (e.g., additional checkboxes or selection fields)
- Prepare for later integration of additional modules (e.g., campaigns, documents)
- Regularly schedule reviews and adjustments of the configuration
With these recommendations, the migration can be carried out in a structured and future-proof manner –
both technically and procedurally.
