Plants

In the configuration for the service module, plants play a central role. They define the logistical framework for handling and processing service orders – particularly in relation to material supply, storage locations, vehicle assignment, and movement types.

Configurable Parameters in the "Plants" Section
Parameter Description Function / Impact
Planning Plant Defines the default plant for planning maintenance orders. Used in order overviews and during confirmations when no specific plant is selected.
Plants for Operation Selection Specifies from which plants operations are retrieved for display in lists (e.g., service orders). Limits the data shown to relevant plants, especially for field technicians or plant managers.
Vehicle Plant The plant under which vehicles are maintained in logistics. Important for transfers, vehicle material orders, and inventory tracking per vehicle.
Vehicle Storage Locations XX*, YY* Placeholder entries for vehicle numbers, used to systematically assign storage locations to vehicles. Ensures clean separation of vehicle inventories within logistics processes.
Central Storage Location Central warehouse for materials (often used as internal spare parts stock). Used when placing orders where no specific alternative is defined.

Usage in the Application
  • In service orders, the plant is essential for material withdrawals, transfers, and logistics logic.
  • When ordering material (e.g., "Order for vehicle 9000"), the relevant storage location is derived from the configured plant and storage rules.
  • During confirmations (work reports), the planning plant determines backend processing in SAP.
  • In the planning board / dispatch view, filtering by plant helps to manage relevant tasks per location or team.
